Don believes he was born an entrepreneur. Growing up he was the kid that started the neighborhood clubs, and always had schemes to earn money. He sold tomatoes and corn door to door from the family garden, mowed lawns in the summer and shoveled snow in the winter. He took on two paper routes at age twelve. Played in a garage rock and roll band starting at thirteen and became semi-professional throughout his teens.
After high school Don held several jobs mainly in the engineering/manufacturing field as he worked as a draftsman. In his twenties he became a Plant manager for Watco Plastics and that was the longest job he held working for an employer other than himself.
Thirty-five years experience in damage repair and restoration including business development, sales, marketing, supervision of field staff, preliminary inspections, estimating and project management.
Published author of many articles appearing in trade and insurance periodicals. Recognized as one of the leading experts on fire and water damage restoration in the United States. Earned industry wide recognition as marketer, spokesperson, administrator and sales executive.
Built a full service disaster restoration company from the trunk of my car into one of the largest restoration company in the Long Island/New York Metro area. Employed over 60 people with 15 trucks.
Many changes took place in Don’s life in his twenties, looking for a creative outlet in his life he was inspired by a television series called “The Walton’s” and began writing. Armed with a type writer (that was one step above a toy purchased at a garage sale) and plenty of white out he began writing articles on religious themes and wrote a weekly article (The Laymen’s Viewpoint) for the Examiner Newspapers for three and half years and for Townsend Communications six neighborhood newspapers for two years.
Don has been writing ever since that time. Currently, he writes on a regular basis for industry magazines, and other periodicals. He is currently working a book discussing the “Crime and Trauma Scene Cleanup Industry.”
Don started Bio Cleaning Services of America, Inc in 1993. This company provides what is known today as “Crime and Trauma Scene Cleanup” services throughout the Midwest. “Even though we have been cleaning up after our dead since Cain and Able and other individuals have certainly done this work, Bio Cleaning Services was the first company dedicated to do this work,” says McNulty.
The core service they provide is homicide and suicide cleanup, but they provide other biohazard containment services as well as “Disease Outbreak Control”. With Resistant Staph (MRSA) in the news almost weekly, this service continues to grow. McNulty and a nine person crew responded to the call to the Katrina Disaster just three days after the hurricane struck. He and his crew performed dead body recovery and medical waste containment for a large medical group. Bio Cleaning Services routinely responds to tragedies both big and small throughout the United States.
McNulty said, “In seeing the need for services like ours throughout the U. S. I developed a seminar and textbook that trains and certifies technicians. To date we have certified over 410 technicians serving over 200 companies in North America, the U.K. and Australia.”
