The Carpet Repair and Reinstallation Technician two-day course teaches techniques and safety issues related to carpet repair and re-installation, carpet construction, inspection process prior to cleaning, tools of the trade, floor preparation, adhesives, carpet cushion installation, tackless strip and moldings, seaming, and proper stretching.
This class also teaches various repairs that the carpet cleaner / restorer may come up against while dealing with an installed textile. This knowledge will enable the technician to recognize and avoid installation problems that may arise while performing carpet cleaning as well as how to correct many issues encountered.
Topics include:
- Installation & Repair Tools / Supplies an overview of all the repair tools available and a discussion of their uses, advantages and disadvantages, including illustrations and descriptions. Tools covered include knee kickers, hot melt seaming irons, power stretchers, seam re-stretchers, and cool melt seaming irons. Gain additional understanding in the use of adhesives, tapes, tack strip, metal strip, and transition metals in the business of carpet repair & reinstallation.
- Carpet Construction learn about types of carpet (woven, tufted, knitted, fusion bonded, flocked, pile designs, etc.) and how each will affect repair capabilities.
- Types of Installation a review of the major categories of installation techniques and what effect they have on repair & reinstallation.
- CRI 104-105 Installation Standards Reference Guide review carpet installation standards established by the Carpet and Rug Institute (CRI)
- Carpet Repair Techniques learn industry techniques and procedures, such as assessment of carpet nap lay, seam repair, re-tufting, step-over tufting, repairing delamination, pile grafting, section from the top (bonded insert, cosmetic transplant, cut and patch), direct glue-down of permanent section, step repair, braided rug repair, buckling, strip and metal repair, reinstallation procedures; included are procedures and repair techniques according to Indoor Air Quality Association's (IAQA) Carpet Installation Guidelines.
The course will also go over add-on service, self-defense & ways to increase sales of your cleaning services.

Carpet Restretching and Reinstallation is always necessary whether you are a carpet cleaning contractor or a restoration contractor. Carpet Restretching is considered to be a normal maintenance procedure in most cases and you should know how to provide this necessary service for your customers!
Learn how to:
- install tack strip properly
- make perfect seams every time
- dismantle existing seams, without cutting the carpet
- understand carpet cushion
- powerstretching techniques
- install carpet on stairs
- proper restretching techniques when all furniture cannot be moved
- repair cutout areas properly, when they've been moved by powerstretching
Hands-on Experience:
We will be restretching and reinstalling carpet in a real-life situation, so all students can gain knowledge through hands-on participation!
